This exceeded my expectations by leaps and bounds. Palmiotti did a good job with this story. I've noticed that no one else here has posted the appearance of the hooded woman in this issue and other 1st issues of the new 52. She appears in the large panel scene of the bar where Jonah and Amadeus are having a drink.

I have read mostly everything that takes place in Gotham and have to say because of my love for the old west genre this was a home run for me. I am not really familar with other Jonah Hex so I didn't prejudge this in any fashion. Just a great read with some great artwork of 1880 gotham.

I was hoping this book would be good. And it completely lived up to my expectations. I will definitely be picking up the 2nd issue.

In response to Crekcurt
Well, you have to understand, you post comments on a ton of these releases, and the vast majority of your comments are a variation of "This hasn't come out yet, but I'm not interested. Pass." Usually with no explanation ("the writer/artist's past work hasn't impressed me," etc.). That's kind of the opposite of what "open-minded" means.
If you only ever post baseless opinions on books that aren't even out yet, and offer no helpful or insightful commentary, of course people will get just a tad annoyed with you. Personally, I just read all your comments in the voice of the comic book guy from the simpsons, which makes my day a little brighter. Why not save the reviews for after the books come out? Your comments would be way more helpful to people then.

im a huge fan of westerns(movies) my grandfather and i watched tons of john wayne and eastwood, badass times. i've never found a comic that translates well in this regard. (im sure they exist) im hoping for a spaghetti western with dark undertones of a horror. in palmiotti i trust

Liking the fact that this is a 40 pg'er that will have supplemental stories like the old war and western comics. Looking forward to more than one story in each issue.

Hmm. Why post a comment.. because I am open minded enough to buy the issue and read it even though I am not interested in it? I'm a fan of the industry. I have read plenty of comics that were considered complete failures and was still able to keep an open mind about the story even though in the end I didn't like it. I fail to understand why this AnthReg82 has such a hatred towards me though.

Then why bother posting Crekcurt? Useless.

One of the best characters in comics today comes back, and comes back to Gotham! What an amazing concept I can't wait to dive in!
