The great serpent-god Quetzalcoatl has much to say to his beloved girl but she is battered and bloodied from her conflict with an old enemy and must first be mended. Carmen believes her return to el Barrio to be justified but she will soon learn why she was called back so suddenly - and the reason will shake the faith she has in herself and her mentor. Meanwhile, a plot against Carmen begins to slowly unfurl that will put her mentor and her future in peril. It is 2012 AD, the end of the Long Count.
