In this Braniac story, Geoff Johns and Gary Frank have taken one of the most troubling, and potentially silly Superman villains, and are telling a tale where he is the most menacing he has ever been! Never have I thought the green guy with a pink costume and the diode crown was a match for Superman. He never looked like he could best him mentally or physically. The fact that he was matched up with Lex Luthor on occasion made him even more lame. Here, he is powerful enough to make both Kryptonian heroes question whether they are able to overcome him. And on top of this, the hot ghetto mess know as Kandor is being addressed in a way that has given it weight and empathetic resonance for the first time. I mean, come on! A bottle city of little Kryptonians living under an artificial red sun? Well they have been made prey of a souless being who has one desire: to acquire more and more information no matter the cost in lives or property. Great!! He has made the Man and Girl of Steel look almost outgunned in this battle. Man, I can't wait to see what happens!
