Avengers: The Initiative is my favorite Avengers title right now and this is another solid entry to the series. Rafa Sandoval does a great job of showing the action and the emotions of the wide ranging cast list as they rapidly approach the event that will completely change the Marvel Universe imminently. The heart of this book is the writing though and Christos Gage does such a great job of giving each character he deals with something unique and special about them and really makes you care about these so-called 'B-list' heroes and villains. I hope he gets to continue something like this after the dust from Siege settles. This is something of a 'lead-in' issue and feels like it. When it finishes we know the real action will be in the main Siege issues, but there is clearly going to be some serious involvement from Penance, Taskmaster, the Initiative and the Resistance. I can't wait.
