This book has everything all comic books should have: good story, great art, smooth flow and pacing and, even though it's a Blackest Night tie-in, a light-hearted and fun tone. Not to mention a nice recap of Ted Kord's life (and death) in the first few pages.
The entire issue is a tribute to Ted Kord, which is very appropriate considering it's about his return as a Black Lantern. Booster Gold seems to be missing but in reality he went back in time to visit Ted's funeral. This story element was never covered anywhere else, so it was nice to see it here in the title featuring his best friend.
Blue Beetle Jaime Reyes is featured in the story as well, thus there is no co-feature in this issue. It's all one full-length extra-sized story which, again, is very appropriate considering the importance of Ted's legacy to be present. This issue also features some other characters in Booster's supporting cast, which is always a nice thing.
The art, as always, is very well done by the team of Jurgens, Norton and Rapmund. Is it really surprising to expect nothing but great art from these guys? Not to me.
Lots of action towards the end of the issue complete with a last-page cliffhanger. This issue may be a tie-in to DC's current mega-event, but with the recap page, as well as the way the story is structured, it is a great issue to jump on for new readers.
If you're buying it for the ring, trust me and read the story. You'll enjoy it and may want to stay on for the long ride.
