A surprisingly good first issue, with an interesting narration to start the story off. Sparks stumbles into a police station to report his own murder, from there he goes on to tell his story while an officer records it. "Hope that's a long tape, because it's a long story." Sparks life begins in tragedy, the event that made him a Super, being the same even that killed his family.Being that the story is set in the early 1900's (The date is never given which works for the book) it's interesting to see a Super fighting on Dick Tracy esc streets in a modern way. Sparks losses teeth and doesn't always win the fight. He decides if he's going to survive the city he's going to need a partner. Well fate would have it that he runs into a beautiful Super that very night. "She was the type of woman you whose first name you instantly wanted to add to your last." What works for Sparks is that it doesn't make the character's over explain everything in the book. Never in the narration does Sparks going into a tangent about the world or the Villain taking over the world. He just talks about himself, but like most guys when they do that, he keeps it simply. Fact of the matter is the art does a lot of the work for the writer. The news tells you who's the Villain and what's happening in the World. The art tells you what the character's are feeling and thinking with out it having to be said in world or though bubbles. Overall this book is like I said in the beginning... surprisingly good. Often times names get thrown onto books and that book ends up being a disappointment but it seems that William Katt and Chris Folino make a good team. If you're a fan of the art in Transhuman than you should check out this book as well since it's the same artist and the style is uniquely his own. Finally if you'd like to check this book out I found a small site that is selling them online I believe exclusively for now.

As per Derek McCaw, Editor of Sparks:
"Just an FYI on Sparks -- though it is being sold online, it is available through Diamond at your local comics shop."
