This is the first issue of Booster Gold that I picked up. Being a huge fan of the title character, and Dan Jurgens, it was always my intent to pick up this title but money constraints prevented me.
Now that such restraints are no longer there, I decided to give this title a try and I was not disappointed in the least bit.
Before I continue my review, I must give a shout out to a fellow fan who, like me, is a huge Dan Jurgens fan and insisted I try out this issue. He knows of my love for Dan Jurgens' Superman run and said I will get a "nostalgic" feel when I read this book. He assured me that the story is recapped in the first couple of pages so, despite it being an "aftermath" to the previous story arc, it is a good jumping-on point for any fan willing to try it out.
Richard... thanks, buddy. I owe you one. :)
Now on to the review...
As stated, the issue starts off with a quick recap of the previous four-part story arc that involved Batman, Robin and the Teen Titans as they fought against Black Beetle. It continues with Rip Hunter reminding Booster Gold that there was still unfinished business he needed to take care of which involved certain pictures been kept in a certain cave.
The dynamic between Booster Gold and Dick Grayson Batman was done very well as was the characterization of Damien Wayne Robin and Alfred (albeit a brief cameo of the latter). It was light-hearted and fun (something missing from a lot of books these days) and it made for a fantastic read.
Dan Jurgens is one of my favorite artists, so anything I say about his work is definitely biased, but I honestly have yet to meet anyone who doesn't like it. Definitely great to see it again.
The co-feature, although the second part of a two-part story, was very good as well. The art is very similar (so no jarring effects when reading it) and the story was just as light-hearted and fun. This is only the second story I read featuring Jaime Reyes as Blue Beetle and I'm compelled to read more.
I truly look forward to collecting this title on a monthly basis. I only wish I could have picked it up a little earlier, but that just adds to the fun of back issue hunting. :)
