Just so you know from the get-go, this issue does not feature Tommy Taylor but by no means does it lessen it. It's still essential to the story as tidbits of the underground cabal (and a certain notorious character) are featured in this stand-alone story.
The entire issue shows the life and times of Rudyard Kipling and how he achieved his fame and fortune and the price he paid along the way.
Mike Carey continues to weave an interesting tale based on literature and Peter Gross complements the tale with his stunning art. A quick wiki search will show you the likeness of Gross' rendering of Kipling is nothing short of perfect.
The last page is definitely something I did not expect. I won't reveal it here but I will offer this hint: the font style used for Kipling's narration is key.
Another masterpiece by the Carey/Gross team. If you like great reads, then pick this up; and while you're at it, hunt down the back issues. You won't regret it.
