Needless to say, there will be some spoilers
Basically, if you like cheesecake and bubble gum pop music, Power Girl is the book for you. Issue #3 basically lets us know that we're not going to see a lot of depth in this book. That's okay, but I was hoping for more.
The issue starts with Power Girl restrained and about to have her brain removed. She uses her freeze breath rather cleverly to escape and says it's great when enemies underestimate her. It gives her an edge. For a moment I thought we'd finally get some depth to her character and book. Wanting to be underestimated, while being Superman's equal, would explain her costume, her personality sometimes, and would give a ton of great insight into PG, giving her new direction.
But sadly it didn't last. When she learns that Humanite's ship is powered by a giant piano/organ/pipe thing, does she use her super speed and super brain to learn how to play it and save the city? Nope. She smashes it.
When she has to figure out a way to save a Manhattan that is suspended miles above the earth, does she think of a plan? Sort of, but not without bemoaning her lack of strategic thinking abilities. When she has to destroy the cables that extend from Humanite's ship to the ground all at once, does she realize that the circumference is smaller closer to the ship? No.
Isn't she the chairperson of the JSA? I would think PG has a ton of strategic skills. But no...
So next month she'll fight some Lindsay Lohan inspired alien chicks who are on their way to Earth to party till the Earth explodes.
Sadly, it's not what I'd hoped for so far, and doesn't look like it'll change.
