John Ostrander (W), Jan Duursema (P/Cover), Dan Parsons (I), and Brad Anderson (C)
With issue 37, a new storyline starts for Star Wars: Legacy. John Ostrander and Jan Duursema have crafted a rich universe with a number of interesting characters, plots and developments. At issue 37 the universe still feels fresh, exciting, and enjoyable.
Unfortunately, I find the main character the least enticing draw. Cade is a drug using, slang talking slacker who can use the force. Initially the point was that he was going to be Han Solo with a lightsaber, but Han Solo had a number of redeeming qualities. I've yet to find any redeeming qualities for Cade.
There is some hope on the horizon however. After one smuggling trip too many, Cade and the gang are stuck on Tatooine. They're wanted by the Black Sun gang, the Imperials are after them, and they're stuck with a busted ship that can't fly. It finally seems that Cade is going to be forced to face his destiny and make a choice about something.
I for one am hoping that Cade is made completely irredeemable. The last story arc and developments with Azlyn Rae, Bantha and Droo I just don't give me much hope for him. If Cade were to fall completely to the Dark Side, it would make sense, and it would also allow a new hero, (possibly Cade's child) with some redeeming qualities to take his place.
Either way, it's still a much more enjoyable Star Wars universe and story than say, Episodes 1 and 2.
