So Tim Drake, sorry, Tim Wayne has donned the Red Robin costume and is scouring Europe for his 'dead' mentor and father figure Bruce Wayne/Batman, and the reason for this? Maybe like the reader we all know that you can't keep a good hero down for long and the 'real' Batman won't be worm food for long and will be resurrected in the near future.
The problem with this first issue was that there was no rhyme or reason as to why he was looking in these places, no tip offs, clues or sightings . Tim seems to be just taking what most young students call a 'gap year' and sticking a few pins in a map blind folded and deciding to take in the sights but of course these sights include kidnapping, pyrotechnics, robberies and blackmail.
Still, all this action got to show off the Batmanesque costume and his skill in combat and in between we see the tortured soul of a young man searching for a scrap of hope.
The artwork wasn't anything to feast your eyes upon and go "WOW!!" at, infact at one point while watching the scene unfold in the Batcave it looked as though we were seeing the same person at different physical stages of their lives, they could have been brothers, Dick, our newly appointed Batman, the older, wiser brother who's words fall on deaf ears, Tim, the middle child, overlooked and resentful and Damien the youngest brother, mouthy with something to prove.
I'm interested as to how this first arc will pan out and what the future holds for Tim and his new guise as the Red Robin. The story has me hooked but the artwork needs a bit of work.
