PRO:
Exiles #1 (Volume 15) collects a interesting variety of Marvel characters from alternate universes and the story leads into a Mutant standoff between Magneto and pals and an apparently very dead Wolverine. The Parker humor is, as ever - present.
A nice 8 page sketchbook in the back of the book really shows the skills of the artist Espin, which is marred in the book by the awful coloring.
CON:
The single most eye burning part of the book is the coloring which should only be viewed in a darkened room. It is so bright you have to look away or you can bet a headache is not far off. Washington is not a bad colorist, it just fails to complement the artwork and is way to happy for a story about death and destruction.
The story could have worked better had it not been so liner. It goes from start to finish telling us the story of who, what, where, etc., which is fine but we spend most of the book looking at the main characters dying in 2 page events. The rest of the book is explaining to the "dead" characters what happened, why and what they get to do next as the "Exiles." That seems fine on paper, but by the time they meet up with Morph there is so much expletive dialogue you are overwhelmed with reading balloon filled panel after panel. It is overbearing and became a labor to read thru.
Another downer was the page layout. Whomever designed the book really needs to read comics once in a while. The climactic final page (With credits???) Is nestled right after a rather intense Amazing Spider-Man ad making it look like the beginning of another story and not the cliffhanger.
HIGH POINT:
Very interesting portraits of the alternate universe versions of Forge, Black Panther and The Witch.
LOW POINT:
Iris burning colors and terrible production.
WILL I BUY THE NEXT ISSUE:
I would but more than likely if it was in a discount bin.
