Aside from the upcoming Man Bat one shot, this is the Battle for the Cowl book I was least excited to read, but I ended up picking it up anyway. I gotta say, I was pleasantly surprised.
As a long time reader of the Bat books, I have a soft spot for Barbara Gordon. I think her Oracle Character has come a lot further than anyone thought when it began. That being said, I haven't read Birds of Prey in years so I'm not really up to whats been going on with her.
But this issue does a good job of reintroducing her into the regular Bat book continutity. She's rebuilding a base of operations in a Gotham thats being ripped apart by crime after the disappearance of Batman after his apparent Death. Since she's not fully up and running, she's having to rely on some other hacker friends to help her.
The downside to this issue? The fact that they are searching for the anti life equation on the internet. Why is this a downside? Final Crisis was one of the worst things I've ever read and I was hoping that DC would just sweep it under the rug, all except for things too big to do that with, like Batmans Death, which, let's not even get into that, or I'll be writing for the next five hours on how much Grant Morrison shouldn't be allowed to write established characters ever again...
But yes, the art is solid, it's paced very well, and it does a good job of reminding us all that Babs is a tough character who is going to play a big part in whats to come in Gotham City.
Now, for the love of god, can we get her back together with Dick?
