Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips have done it again. I remember reading the first issue and knowing it was going to be another hit series from the noir style duo. It has been over a month since I last read the first issue, and after reading this second issue I can already tell it is going to be a series that is going to be read over and over again.
CLICK TO SHOW SPOILER The pulp style comic takes a creepy turn when we see a meeting between the cover character Black Death meet with his "attorney" Dupree. The whole conversation has skin crawling undertones as the two have a secret conversation within their public conversation. Sean Phillips' art once again compliments Brubakers style of writing, and especially the last panel of this discussion.
A nice retelling of the main characters background story, with some new information, really helps tie together some pieces that we may have forgotten about over the last month without really being repetitive. This of course brings forth the blossoming friendship between Overkill and his office mate Farmer. I really like the way Brubaker brings the affinity between these two to light. It just works so well, very believable.
So believable in fact, that when Farmer not only figures out that his new friend is Overkill but tries to blackmail him as well, even the reader is shocked. Simply great character development here.
Speaking of character development, Amanda sure has turned into a completely new person in my eyes. I mean, how wrapped up in yourself do you have to be to anonymously meet people online to pretend to rape you in dark allies for the sole purpose of hoping that some kind of masked vigilante will come to your rescue only for you to try and seduce him.
Okay, there's a Sharks game on and they're losing bad. My attention needs to be elsewhere right now and I feel my writing isn't coming out as I want it to anyway. So that's my review. BUY THIS BOOK.
