Wow, that author takes a nasty tone towards the stereotyped comic book fan...
Batwoman is not the new Batman. She's getting a 12-issue focus in Detective Comics and the first few pages show her interacting with Batman (whoever that ends up being).
This article really makes me wish that people who obviously know nothing about comic books don't make comic books their business. This was such a disgusting article, I couldn't even comment on their own thread. I still feel so dirty.
No. She's just taking over Detective Comics for a while. And that guy really shouldn't be taking that tone for a professional journalist. That headline alone should get him fired.
It seems to me that the news outlets are running this story simply to create controversy. Any bat-fan, like myself, knows to look past this and see that Batwoman's involvement in Detective Comics will not be permanent.
I certainly hope, as do many other fans, that Batman's gap would truly be filled in by someone he has trained to take the place such as Grayson or Drake.
Am I completely thrilled that Batwoman is going to be the center of my favorite book for 12 months? To be honest, not really. I would much rather read about Nightwing or Robin.
However, I like Rucka's writing, so I'm just gonna have to read this and see where it goes.
If nothing else, it should be an exciting ride until we see Bruce Wayne again...
That's my take.
I don't get the hype over the current Batwoman being a lesbian. It's not like this is new information.
The Batman titles are my favorites. Batman is what got me into comics. Having said that, if the stories and art are good, I don't mind 12 issues of Batwoman in Detective. I'm all for doing something new as long as it's interesting. With all of the titles, minis and one-shots coming up I doubt there will be a shortage of anyone's favorite character. Except maybe Bruce Wayne...
What I'd like to know is, where was it said that Batwoman was named as Batman's successor? Nothing I have read remotely suggested that. She's merely being featured as a prominent character in Detective while the "Battle of the Cowl" storyline shakes out.
Outside of the initial reveal that Batwoman was a lesbian (keeping in mind the character has been around now for coming up on two years) there hasn't been much discussion around this issue. While I disagree with his assessment of the character being the "essence of a male dominatrix fantasy", I do think DC has done a disservice to the character by waiting this long to find a way to spotlight her.
I've been saying for years now......"Who is Kathy Kane?" Yes, we know she's rich and a lesbian, and apparently her family's wealth comes from some kind of weapons development company, but that's it. Why is she doing this? What's the motivation? How did she come to this point? And the question that has come up for me more than once, what is Bruce's take on this? I found it odd that given how Batman reacted to the Huntress running around as Batgirl during the "No Man's Land" arc, that he wouldn't have had some kind of interaction with Kathy after his return to Gotham when he was away for a year.
I'm glad we are finally going to get a chance to see this character fleshed out. I have to agree with the other posters though...this guy doesn't seem to have any respect for the medium or it's fans at all.
I've found it best to just ignore the mainstream press when it comes to anything comics related. These people generally don't know anything about superheroes beyond what they've seen in the movies or on TV.
