Discussion - Franken Castle

Spoilers abound. If you haven't read the new PUNISHER: THE LIST issue, do not read any further. Spoilers of the highest order.

So I got mad and posted on ComicBookResources.com for the first time in years about this upcoming storyline. It's like an alcoholic taking a drink after being years sober. A drug addict using after being clean a few years. It's exactly like those things. Now I'm wanting to post more, but so far it's been that once.

But I thought for fun, I would post what I wrote there, on here, just to spice up this Jetpack Group a bit.
Just in case anyone wants to come into the store and argue with me, or do it on here. haha.

Anyway. here you go. my thoughts on this crap:

Years ago I used to post on CBR and Newsarama constantly. I did it too much and decided to stay away from it.
I work in a comic shop and when I read this past weeks PUNISHER THE LIST and saw the ad for FRANKEN-CASTLE, I made sure lots of people checked it out and every single person that saw it did the same thing. Here you go:
"Wait what?! THEY KILLED PUNISHER?!?! Wow that was insanely brutal...how the hell will they get out of that one...What? Turn the page? Okay..hmm.......wait. Is this a joke?" And then every single one of them put the book back on the shelf shaking their heads.
So I sign on here to see what people are saying, just out of curiosity.
WOW.
This many of you people are into something that is So completely and utterly a garbage idea that totally craps on a character like this?
I am someone who subscribes to the fact that Punisher should not, and cannot be a part of the regular Marvel Universe. This fact has been argued and I think what it basically comes down to, is that it works for an arc or two, if you have someone with a good idea. but then when that runs out, you do something ridiculous and drastic that people also do not get behind. A man who mass murders villains would be classified as a villain by super powered heroes. Despite his training or how many guns he has, he cannot hold his own when it comes down to it. Which was actually the best part of this weeks THE LIST issue, because thats how it SHOULD go. Punisher should not be able to fight someone like Daken for long, because eventually Daken heals and Frank does not. It just doesn't work. So for that issue, I actually commend Remender.But knowing what comes after the List issue totally blows any credibility for this issue out of the water.
Turning Frank Castle into a Frankensteins Monster is one of THE worst things I've ever heard in my 20+ years of reading comics.
Apparently there are more mindless idiots reading comics these days who just like stupid ass ideas as long as they have something to do with Zombies(yeah this fits the zombie fad. Don't deny it.) or stupid slapstick and non stop jokes. (Yeah I'm looking at you Deadpool fans). Don't get me wrong. There are good zombie stories to be told(walking dead) and Deadpool is a cool character, but he's also a throw away character. None of his stories mean anything. None hold any weight. Yeah they entertain you for now, but for how long can that last? It can't. Thats why he can't support an ongoing series for any length of time by himself.
In a day when there are more and more well written books out there, it blows my mind that a character so rich in history in the marvel U, one with such a huge fan base, can just be wasted like this.
Osborn as a List. I do too. It's the writers I stay away from List.
After that abortion of a Thunderbolts issue a couple weeks back, and now this?
Rick Remender is now on it.

It sounds......interesting, or has at least piqued my interest and I'm the first to admit that I'm a casual Punisher fan (which is probably why I'm drawn into the gimmick), and like you I think he works best as a character in his own universe. When it comes to Deadpool, I personally love the character and the regular book by Way(which is saying something cause I HATED Daniel Way with a passion for some time), but even I'm starting to notice that he's in way too many books. You could essentially combine Merc With a Mouth or Team-Up as a backup to the regular Deadpool series and be all set. It seems like Marvel is dead set on making him into an A-list character before his movie is made(IF it gets made...).
If Punisher shows up in Spider-man every now and then I guess that's okay, but like you said, if he continually kills people, super-beings, crackheads, and various ho's and pimps, then someone's going to come in and take him down.
I'm still going to snag a copy of that issue next time I'm in though....it sounds like a cool fight, and it can't be as bad as the Marvel Knights series where he was killing demons and stuff? Right?....Right?
