Discussion - Let's start a new segment...

That I will post once a week.
Sure, everyone does a weekly segment, but what will set mine apart?
Well instead of telling you something you should be reading,(which I do plenty of anyway), or telling you what I like(you've all heard it before, Invincible, Punisher Max, Secret Warriors, Batman, Blah blah blah), I will be telling you what comic I hated from this week, and why.

Keep in mind this column will be totally my opinion and most likely the reasons will be absurd to the normal reader. It could be a book I usually love, but hated this time, or it could be a book I don't even pick up, but happened to page through in the store and found something within it's pages that threw me into a fit of rage enough to write a few paragraphs about it. Feel free to comment on it, and tell me you agree, disagree, prove me wrong, or back me up. Your call.

Most likely I'll post this Wednesday night, or early Thursday to keep it current. If I slack, call me out on it!

Alright, on to this weeks victim.

THE PUNISHER #9 by Rick Remender and Tan Eng Huat
Anyone who has spoken to me for any amount of time knows my stance on the Punisher. In case you are one of the few who hasn't, here it is. HE DOES NOT WORK IN THE REGULAR MARVEL UNIVERSE!
He just doesn't. There are hundreds of superheroes flying around and patrolling the streets. They would not let a mass murderer just do his thing out there every night, even though he is wiping out criminals. They just wouldn't. Therefore, this character doesn't work.
Where does he work? The Max universe, where Garth Ennis has written him excellently until his departure from the book with issue 60, last year. He had Frank in a real world setting preying on horrible criminals and dealing with the worst of the worst. Sure the cops wanted to catch him, but I can believe that he can stay one step ahead of the authorities a lot easier than I can believe he can stay away from the Avengers.
Now, I'm just getting myself angry by going over this argument again. Let's get to it. Remender started this series 9 issues ago and despite vowing I'd never give it a chance, after that garbage Punisher War Journal book that came before it, I did. It wasn't terrible. He was being hunted by the Sentry in the first issue. Yeah it was a big stretch that he could get away from the Sentry, but it had me interested to see where it was going. It went downhill from there. Basically he's being targeted by Osborne, and staying one step ahead of everyone.
Why is this the book I hate? Here's why.

The book ends with Osborne standing over the empty graves of Franks wife and children.
"Rich, that sounds pretty brutal! Why would that make you angry?"
Well you see, Garth Ennis did this in Punisher Max. Issue 19, the start of the "UP IS DOWN AND BLACK IS WHITE" story. Mob boss Nicky Cavella digs them up to get Franks attention. He also urinates on the bones, on video and sends it to all the News channels in town. The story was incredible. So if there is one way I could possibly hate a normal Marvel Universe book with the Punisher in it, it's stealing something from Ennis's run on Max. I stand by the stance that it's one of THE greatest runs in comic history. Those of you who think it's just another violent book with no substance, you are fools. It's written so well at times I dare say it borders on poetic. Yeah I just said that, Punisher Max is poetic.
Now someone out there might have an example of another time this happened in Punishers past, but you know what? It doesn't count if it wasn't in Punisher Max. That's the only readable run in the characters history. Yeah I know Ennis did Marvel Knights Punsiher books, but they were corny. The Russian sucks, Ma Gnucci sucks. The book wasn't good.
So in the end, this current Punisher book is crap. Remender steals ideas from Max, and I now hate his book. I hope it gets cancelled. If I had bought it, I would have balled it up and threw it at someone.
